Delaney Lyons has hit rock bottom. After being victim to an explosion in Afghanistan, her life has been turned upside down and she can’t seem to grasp a meaning to her life anymore. Her sister therefore send Quinlan Cates to rescue her from Washington D.C. and bring her back to her North Carolina hometown.

While Quinn sees the obvious change in Delaney, there is one thing that hasn’t changed a bit. The feelings he has for her – and tried so hard to suppress – are still present, and despite Laney being so moody, they are growing even fonder. But he has no idea what happened to her, and just how hurt she really is…

I don’t know what it was with Bringing Delaney Home, but I discovered this while browsing Amazon, saw the cover and the blurb, and just knew I had to buy pre-order it. I have to admit, it took me a while to actually pick it up when it was released, but I do not regret it at all.

Bringing Delaney Home was definitely something. It was different, and wonderfully refreshing. I enjoyed it so much that I managed to finish it in a go on one Sunday morning. What I enjoyed most was the fact that the story was unexpected: not just the plot, but the people and their reactions. It was also great to see so many side characters come to life in this book, and every single one of them played a distinct role. Being able to have such a variety and unexpectedness in a book without making it confusing is a great gift.

It definitely also tugged on my heartstrings: the story/plot felt so true and so real that it was easy to bond with the characters. Delaney was extremely mean, stubborn and hot-headed, but it was easy for me to relate why she was that way, and even easier to see that this was just a façade.

And Quinn – don’t get me started on Quinn. If you want a perfect book boyfriend, he’s the man. He’s sweet, caring, a tad clumsy but also quite protective in a non-annoying way. I loved him. And his mama. And his brothers. And holy moly, don’t you just love series about brothers? Reminds me a bit of the Winston Brothers series by Penny Reid: delectable, and totally makes you crave the next hit book.

On the “quality of writing”, I do have to admit that there were a couple of odd things that made reading the book a bit uncomfortable. It was written in 3rd person POV (not a bad thing per se) and alternating between Quinn and Laney’s POV (a great thing) – but what was annoying about it was that the point of view would switch from one to another within the same paragraph, and that could be sometimes confusing. What’s more, there would be no visual separator (or sometime not even a proper line break) between two distinct scenes: one phrase they are sitting in a car, and the next they are somewhere else, and the story is told from the other POV – confusing!

But in summary, this book was a great success, which I would definitely recommend!

Loved this story of a damaged heroine. Delaney manages to be both funny and tough. She's a heroine I think everyone will love. Quinn is a super sexy cop and I love the way they both find their way to each other in this lovely humorous but emotional romance. I can't wait for more from Ms. Kilraine.
This was an interesting story with many facets of life coming together. I had to re-read the beginning a few times because I felt like I had missed something, as if I had been dropped into the middle of a conversation without the proper introductions. Some characters just show with an explaination of them at another time. This happened a few times. This was unsettling to me. I like to know who the characters are as they are introduced, not just read a name and then try to figure out who they are. I am not usually a romance reader but this was enjoyable.
I just loved, loved, loved this book. I am always sensitive to the needs of our country's veterans. The fact that in this book the veteran who was injured and having to overcome not only the physical injury but amnesia and post traumatic stress is a woman was a huge draw for me. You don't read too many books about a woman dealing with these issues when many to serve side by side with men. I believe the author did a wonderful job taking the readers through Delaney's journey from her issues through childhood to how they shaped her today. I through Delaney's sarcastic attitude was a hoot and added the much needed comedic relief to this story. Quin was a sweat heart who stood by Delaney, loving her from afar while growing up to loving her and supporting her while totally in her space. Add in the cast of characters from the town and you have a wonderful book. I highly recommend it!
I wasnt sure where this story was going but a few pages in, I was totally hooked! Of course I then had to continue reading the entire series plus Wanted Mom for Christmas. Of all the strong and unique female characters throughout the series, and while they all touched my heart and sometimes brought tears, Delaney was my favorite. I read them all over a week from my public library but have now happily added them to my kindle for more leasurely re-reading. Also looking forward to more stories with the fun people of Climax. Thanks Ms Kilraine for the yummy alpha men and the women they fall in love with. Great writing here! More please...
I knew I would love this book after the first few pages. I loved the story, the characters, and the banter between Delaney and Quinn – well basically Delaney and anyone. Delaney’s pain and struggle was well established from the beginning and you felt for her and what she was going through. Quinn was someone you were rooting for from the beginning – willing him to keep pushing forward even when Delaney tried with everything to keep him on the outside. The development of the relationship between Quinn and Delaney is one I really enjoyed reading – it was funny, sexy, down right mean (usually on Delaney’s part) but mainly it was out of love.

I’ve always wanted to live in a small town like Climax, maybe its a Gilmore Girl’s side effect, but this town looks out for their own. Even if they let a little drama happen first just to have something to talk about. Not only do you fall in love with Delaney and Quinn, but their families and the Climax town. Your business is everyone’s business and everyone is going to have something to say about it. Especially Mama Cates. You can’t help but love Mama Cates, especially having raised five boys and being witness to proclamations of their crazy monkey sex. The story was authentic and believable – which sometimes in contemporary romance we don’t find, especially one where a relationship blossoms quickly. Lee Kilraine is definitely an author to keep reading.
